The other day - and only 18 months after everyone else - we watched Bill Cunningham New York and were overwhelmingly charmed by every character mentioned, especially the inimitable Iris Apfel, and considering her multi-coloured, multi-layered ensembles it's no surprise that Apfel has created a collection of loud, proud eyeshadows and lipsticks for cosmetic super brand M.A.C.
Following an exhibition of her wardrobe at the Costume Institute in 2005 Apfel has enjoyed renewed notoreity, this collaboration being the latest in a series of projects that include jewellery designing with Alex Bittar and a spread in Vogue Italia photographed by Bruce Weber. Apfel joins latest recruits Daphne Guinness and Gareth Pugh in the M.A.C collaborative lineage. You can read an interview with Apfel about the collection over at Dazed Digital, where she discusses her decision to call lipstick shades the likes of 'Pink Pigeon' and 'Party Parrot'. If only all grandmothers were this awesome.
