Hedi Slimane has achieved global recognition over the past decade for his discovery and presentation of emerging musicians and artists and a massive impact on multiple creative disciplines especially through his photography. Commonwealth Projects have produced a video documenting the opening week of Slimane’s California Song exhibition at the MOCA. The self-commissioned video includes footage of the opening night, No Age’s rehearsal for their performance, installation and includes the original No Age soundtrack that features in the physical exhibition.
California Song spans the photographerʼs “California period” and traces his explorations of cycles of urban youth culture and artistic communities, through installations of photographic essays, exhibitions, and publications. Slimaneʼs allusive portraiture is referenced in the video, in which photographs, portraits, and still life compositions are often signs or fragments of a portrait, and projected in a repetitive, almost ritual, manner. Also great if you like images of attractive people smoking…
