We are currently busy preparing for the start of London Fashion Week in 10 days, and to kick off our coverage we bring you a celebration of the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN scheme, which is undoubtedly the single biggest supporter of emerging fashion talent in London. To highlight NEWGEN this year past recipients have been asked to collaborate on a series of limited edition signature t-shirts, with all proceeds going to Centrepoint. Contributing designers include the likes of Christopher Kane, Richard Nicoll, Erdem, Peter Pilotto, and Meadham Kirchhoff.
The NEWGEN scheme was established by the British Fashion Council in 1993 and, acts as a promotional launch pad for young designers whilst also offering encouragement and support and has launched the careers of some of London’s most iconic design talents. And while this is a great profile raising opportunity with the designs being made available on Topshop’s website, it is a shame that the output for such a creative enterprise is once again graphic printed T-shirt.
