NYFW 2012 - MARC JACOBS AND RODARTE

— Posted on 16.02.2012

Are you getting bored of New York Fashion Week posts? Us too, so we're just going to talk about our weird and wonderful favourites, like Marc Jacobs and Rodarte!

You know those retards that deem fancy dress and music festivals mutually exclusive ideas and for whom a standard outfit to said festival involves a superhero costume, Crocs and a jester hat? Weeeeeellll, the headpieces at Marc Jacobs remind us of the jester hat because they're floppy, they're furry and they're oversized. Our anxiety over the potentiality that Jacobs' had referenced the biggest fashion crime known to man for AW2012 was laid to rest with the set: Hey Zeuss! Hey Dr. Zeuss! The cartoonish size of the aforementioned hats paired with Wizard of Oz-like shoes and a contrasting illustrative colour palette has The Cat in the Hat written all over it. OF COURSE THERE ARE GIANT HATS IN HIS COLLECTION!

The riddle of New York Fashion Week has to be: why on earth was George Lucas sitting front row at Rodarte? Rodarte are designing the costumes for his new film! The Mulleavys love Star Wars! They are just good friends! While we may never know the answer we can at least gauge the inspiration for the collection Rodarte was showing Mr. Lucas. Like Sara Phillips the Australian outback apparently provided inspiration as a burnt palette complimented Aboriginal-like prints. The sophistication of the forties was present across silhouettes with extended shoulders and double breasting, and if Rodarte don't have their hands tied with an out-of-space movie project they should consider a follow-up to The Aviator.
