FRIDAY FAVOURITES - AN IMPORTANT AND TIMELY NEWS ROUND-UP with HANNAH COOKE

— Posted on 09.03.2012

I’m feeling eclectic. Why should Friday Favourites be exclusively about awful celebrities? Other than the fact that it is my official “beat”? Let’s not let labels define us.

The best thing in the world today is the Guardian’s coverage of the Crufts Dog Show. There’s a live blog which updates automatically every minute! You may or may not be aware that I have an imaginary (for now) Italian Greyhound called Feckless, so I was overjoyed to discover that he is currently residing in the UK, wearing the heck out of a beautiful  orange jumpsuit (he’s on the right, looking a little feckless)

Once you finish reading about the dapper dog show, why not stick with The Guardian for a few more minutes and read about the perfect bacon sandwich. Although mouth watering, none of the sandwiches referred to in the article can top my own bacon sandwich, which I eat approximately once every two months. It cures all ills. You need:

An avocado

Streaky bacon, as much as you can handle

Fresh Molenberg

Italian parsley

So you fry the bacon, smear as much avocado as possible on the bread. Then you put the bacon in the bread, scatter the parsley on top (health!), then FRY THE SANDWICH IN THE BACON FAT IN THE PAN, both sides.  It is a savoury treat like no other. You’re welcome.

Speaking of foodstuffs, I’m going to eat a rotisserie chicken smeared in champignon truffle butter on Monday.

There have been exciting new details released about Zoolander 2!

A good thing about being a little famous is being able to backhandedly compliment your less successful ex husband.

A goat ate a pizza. In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made, oh!

The GoFugYourself ladies discuss Katy Perry at Fashion Week. Usually, I do not give a care about Katy Perry’s outfits but the comparison to “a diagram of the symptoms of venereal disease” was too apt to ignore.

Finally, I need your help. I work in a really loud office. As in, people singing opera all day. As in, extremely loud church organ music. As in, my co-worker listening to the Royal Wedding – including child choir – several times in a day. To get through it, I wear headphones a lot. I’ve found that listening to things like This American Life, The Dinner Party, The Pop Culture Happy Hour help (yes, I only listen to podcasts by jaunty, fast talking NPR arts contributors) but I’m running out of material! Do you guys have any ideas about what I can listen to? Let me know in the comments. Or on Facebook. Or whatever.
